Valero Energy Foundation Helps Grant 4000th Wish for
Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas
San Antonio, TX
– On Monday, March 16th
, 2015, the Valero Energy Foundation will help grant the 4000th
wish for Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas by presenting wish kid Kendall with a custom-designed wheelchair by Mike Box.
Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas started in the fall of 1984, and its first wish was granted in 1985. This year, the chapter is celebrating their 30th year of granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions in their 40-county territory.
The Valero Energy Foundation, which has granted more than 35 local children’s wishes in the past 10 years, is one of the chapter’s strongest corporate supporters and will be sponsoring the very special 4000th wish at the Valero headquarters in San Antonio, TX.
Wish kid Kendall, an 18 year-old with a life-threatening medical condition, was able to fly to California this past December to meet with Mike Box designers and help create and customize her new wheelchair. On March 16th, she will receive the wheelchair she’s been waiting for!
Kendall told us, “I love Make-A-Wish. They are giving me the chance to do things I did before I was sick. The whole process is fun, don't rush to your first wish. When you decide, think about your dreams, think about what really makes you happy. Spend a lot of time thinking about your wish, that's part of the fun.”
Friends, family, and Valero employees will gather together on Monday, March 16th at 4pm to greet Kendall and to share in the celebration. They will meet at the Valero Headquarters, 1 Valero Way, San Antonio, TX 78249.
Kendall, her parents, and Make-A-Wish staff members and volunteers will be in attendance and available to be interviewed. For additional information on Monday, March 16th, please contact Lauren Bremer at 765-491-6984.

About Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. With the help of generous donors and more than 250 volunteers, Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has granted more than 3,900 wishes to children in 40 counties since 1984. During the last year, volunteers and donors made it possible for 233 kids to experience the magic of a wish.
A child with a qualifying life-threatening medical condition can refer him/herself or be referred by a medical professional, parent or guardian by calling 1-800-880-9474 or visiting cstx.wish.org. Please help spread the word about our wish-granting work. A wish experience can truly change a child’s life…and so can you. For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit www.cstx.wish.org.
