After almost three years of fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Gabrielle was ready to go on her wish to the Walt Disney World Resort® in August 2012. She still remembers her magical trip to this day!
Her experience was unforgettable. Make-A-Wish
surprised Gabi with a VIP experience at Orlando’s major theme parks where she was
treated like a princess at every turn. Throughout their stay, Gabi got to
meet all of her favorite characters. She never had to stand in line for a
The family, like all Make-A-Wish families, stayed at Give Kids The World® Resort, a 70-acre, non-profit "storybook" resort, located near Central Florida's most beloved attractions, where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families are treated to a week-long fantasy vacation. The stay includes amenities such as their own family villa, an all day Ice Cream Palace, a life-size Candyland playground and meals at the Gingerbread House Restaurant just to name a few.
Gabi had the time of her life, but
each day meant just as much to her parents Kelly and Dennis. For them, it was a
respite from months of worry and uncertainty.
Kelly told us, “Following the ups
and downs of treatment, we knew this would be a chance for Gabi and the rest of
the family to have a life-changing experience, as well as a brief distraction
from the challenges she had grown accustomed to. Throughout the entire
wish experience, the memories and joy created not only had a profound effect on
Gabi but on her family as well.”
Today, seven year old Gabi is
finished with her treatments and her prognosis is good. She is excited to
cheer on her dad in June as he rappels down W Austin. By participating in
Over The Edge, a fundraiser that gives participants the opportunity to summon
their own courage in order to experience a daring and exciting thrill, Gabi’s
father is helping to grant wishes just like hers!
