AUSTIN, TX (January 30, 2015) – Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas has announced the dates and launch of the 5th annual Over The Edge event, the non-profit organization’s fundraiser that will give individuals the opportunity to rappel off of a 38-story building. The event is presented by IBC Bank and will take place on Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th at W Austin (200 Lavaca Street, Austin TX 78701).
Over The Edge will give the first 200 individuals who raise a minimum of $1,500 the opportunity to rappel 478 feet down W Austin, one of the tallest buildings in Austin. If you don’t want to rappel by yourself, form a team with your co-workers or friends. In addition, sponsorship opportunities are available and listed on the website at www.austinovertheedge.com/sponsors.cfm.
Scaling the heights of a towering building demonstrates the challenging leap of faith necessary to overcome fears and obstacles, which is a hurdle that Make-A-Wish children are faced with every day. This event will give participants the opportunity to summon their own courage in order to experience a daring and exciting thrill, all while making a difference for those who need it the most. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest rappel, best costume, slowest rappel, most money raised and biggest chicken.
The fundraising minimum can be raised through any combination of donations. Online pages are available for registration to further ensure safe and secure transactions. All proceeds will go towards efforts to grant the wishes of children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses in central and south Texas. To sign up, visit www.austinovertheedge.com. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. With the help of generous donors and more than 250 volunteers, Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has granted more than 3,900 wishes to children in 40 counties since 1984. During the last year, volunteers and donors made it possible for 233 kids to experience the magic of a wish.
A child with a qualifying life-threatening medical condition can refer him/herself or be referred by a medical professional, parent or guardian by calling 1-800-880-9474 or visiting cstx.wish.org. Please help spread the word about our wish-granting work. A wish experience can truly change a child’s life…and so can you. For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit www.cstx.wish.org
