World Wish Day

April 23, 2015

San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 23, 2015)— It’s a celebration more than 30 years in the making: in 1980, a 7- year-old boy received his heartfelt wish to be a police officer for a day.  That one wish inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish® and launched the wish granting movement that circles the globe today.

On April 26, 2015, from 4-7 P.M., Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas will commemorate World Wish Day with a celebration of wishes past, present and future at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, Texas (5223 David Edwards Drive, San Antonio, TX 78223).  Current and alumni wish kids, donors, volunteers and supporters of Make-A-Wish will be invited for a private event that will include food, fun, music and the granting of one special wish. Last year, nearly 2,000 people joined us for this Wish Kid Reunion.

This year at World Wish Day, Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas celebrates its 30th Birthday – a special celebration of three decades of wish granting in our 40-county territory and an opportunity to honor donors, volunteers and other supporters who have helped to share the power of a wish®.  Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas will recognize community leaders with the Make-A-Wish Trooper Awards, signifying their extraordinary philanthropy and continued commitment to the mission of Make-A-Wish.

The Trooper Award is a Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas original.  It was here, where a young boy named Travis, wished to be a Texas State Trooper.  Travis’ likeness was the inspiration in creating the Foundation’s “Trooper Award” – symbolizing the dedication of those who support Make-A-Wish and the children we serve.

About Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.  According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children.  Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family.  With the help of generous donors and more than 250 volunteers, Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has granted more than 4,000 wishes to children in 40 counties since 1984.  During the last year, volunteers and donors made it possible for 233 kids to experience the magic of a wish.

A child with a qualifying life-threatening medical condition can refer him/herself or be referred by a medical professional, parent or guardian by calling 1-800-880-9474 or by visiting   Please help spread the word about our wish-granting work.  A wish experience can truly change a child’s life…and so can you.  For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit
