Dylan is a 4 year-old from Austin with malignant brain tumors. When asked about his one true wish, Dylan’s fascination with volcanoes was obvious. His dream was to see a real one up close!
“I like to watch volcanoes on YouTube every day,” Dylan told us, “I love volcanoes and want to see one up close.” When he and his family traveled to Kona, Hawaii, Dylan was finally able to see a live volcano! At the Volcanoes National Park, Dylan saw a video of historic eruptions, explored lava fields, and walked through the Nahuku Lava Tube! “I want to see a lava rock and take it home with me to show my teachers,” said Dylan. By the end of the trip, Dylan had plenty of stories to take home and share with everyone!
Dylan first learned about volcanoes in his Pre-K class and his curiosity took off from there! “I have two books about volcanoes and my mom and dad read them so I can see the pictures,” explained Dylan. The trip to the Volcano National Park was both informational and exhilarating as the guide escorted Dylan around the volcanoes.
In addition to exploring the island’s volcanoes, Dylan and his family attended a luau! With his lei around his neck, Dylan danced the night away and had a perfect ending to an amazing trip!
