Eighteen-year-old Kendall’s much-anticipated day finally arrived. A lover of fashion, Kendall dreamt of a day filled with trend-setting couture and world-renowned designers, topped off with a bit of sparkle from carefully chosen accessories. This was Kendall’s wish…. a shopping spree! She wanted, and certainly deserved, to be a fashion queen and set trends for the world to follow.
Kendall was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease at the young age of 3. “When I heard Kendall’s diagnoses, I felt like my heart had just been ripped from my chest, and I thought I was going to lose my baby girl,” said Kendall’s mom, Deanna.
From that moment forward, Kendall has endured years of dialysis, a kidney transplant, a vessel branding due to portal hypertension, and countless numbers of doctors and hospital visits. But with an impressive support system of friends and family, Kendall has faced it with style and grace.
Kendall’s mom knows the importance of a wish – to have something to look forward to, inspire you, and to help you through the most difficult of times. Deanna’s younger brother had cancer as a child. He was granted a wish too, and Deanna saw the positive effect it had on him, so she knew Kendall was in for something special. Deanna wasn’t the least bit surprised that Kendall chose a shopping spree. Kendall loves fashion, and Deanna knew a shopping spree would bring her so much joy.
Kendall’s day started when a limousine showed up in front of her house. She knew it was going to be a magical day. First stop? A full makeover where she got glammed up before heading to her favorite stores. Her mom wanted this to be extra special for her, so she insisted Kendall take her two best friends with her. The entire day was filled with fashion, fun and good friends. And the highlight for Deanna was “just seeing her face when she got home with all her new clothes, jewelry and other goodies, and the pictures she and her friends took together. Kendall had a great time, and they made my baby girl feel special.”
“Kendall loves to shop. This day gave her the ability to focus on what she loves rather than her illness. All the attention for the day was focused on her, and it wasn’t coming from a nurse or doctor checking up on her during dialysis. Rather, that attention came from beauty artists putting make-up on her face or a personal shopper deciding the perfect outfit for Kendall.” And the effects of her wish didn’t stop when the limo dropped them off at her home. The memories made from this experience are ones that Kendall will cherish for the rest of her life.
